This mountain bike loop from Saint-Apollinaire, near our Balcon des Écrins, is a challenge for experienced mountain bikers. On a 29.9 km route with 1,090 m of elevation gain, you begin with the balcony trails of Saint-Apollinaire (3.19 km), offering a panoramic view over the valley. You reach the resort of Réallon at 10.4 km, nestled at an altitude of 1,560 m, before continuing towards the Col de la Gardette (20.2 km). The latter is a must for mountain biking enthusiasts, with a spectacular view and terrain where you may need to push your bike.

Col de la Gardette – Aiguilles de Chabrières loop from Saint-Apollinaire

This loop from Saint-Apollinaire is a 12.1 km mountain bike ride for experts, with 780 m of elevation gain. The route starts at the Les Méans car park, then climbs towards the Col de la Gardette (5.86 km), a key point with a magnificent view. You then reach the Aiguilles de Chabrières (8.05 km), a spectacular site but one that is hard to reach by bike, sometimes requiring you to carry your bike over technical sections. The route ends back at the Les Méans car park or continues to the holiday village Le Balcon des Écrins in Réallon.

Lac de Saint-Apollinaire loop

This route from Saint-Apollinaire is a 26 km mountain bike itinerary with 1,380 m of elevation gain, intended for experts. It begins at the resort of Réallon, a natural viewpoint overlooking Lake Serre-Ponçon. You then continue towards the Lac de Saint-Apollinaire (9.4 km), an idyllic spot for a swim in summer. The highlight of the route is the technical, demanding descent of the “single de folie” singletrack (11.7 km), followed by the balcony trails of Saint-Apollinaire to round off the adventure or return to Le Balcon des Écrins in Réallon.
