Route ideas
Our best hikers and our teams have put together something to get your legs warmed up, on routes that harmoniously combine local character, scenery and technical challenge.
Discovery hike in the Mélézet valley towards Vars.
For beginner or occasional hikers wishing to cover a short distance at a leisurely pace.
Ideal in the morning, as it faces the rising sun, this hike follows the ancestral path linking the alpine pastures of Vars and Risoul. The climb is easy and gradual, punctuated by viewpoints over the Queyras and the Chagne valley. The forest route is shared with the Greenland dog sled teams.
On the way back, we’ll freely make our own tracks through the powder to introduce you to the joys of snowshoeing. A lovely introduction to the pleasures of winter walking!
Duration: 2 hours Elevation gain: 120 m (more or less depending on your level)
Downhill hike from the Homme de Pierre viewpoint
For regular hikers in search of altitude, panoramic views and fine tracks in the powder.
We’ll ride up to the viewpoint on the new Homme de Pierre chairlift, open to pedestrians, and begin this hike by taking in Lake Serre-Ponçon, one of the finest views the heights of Risoul have to offer.
We’ll then leave the ski area and head towards the Pic du Clocher, on the eastern edge of the Écrins National Park, whose majestic peaks will be our main backdrop on the way down. Amid alpine pastures, moorland, forests, streams and small valleys, our walk will be a real treat for the eyes and the legs, all the more so as the snow here is often of excellent quality.
Full-day hike on the Martinat ridge via the Combals alpine pastures
For seasoned, sporty hikers looking for a wonderful winter experience on terrain that is both demanding and airy.
This snowshoe route offers the calm of seclusion, the beauty of varied landscapes and the richness of a natural world where we are guests for a moment.
We’ll begin our off-piste ascent through an open, gently sloping forest before crossing over into the Combals alp.
For the picnic break, we’ll make our way to the Martinat ridge, where we’ll stop at a three-sided hut open to the south to enjoy the warmth of the midday sun. We’ll then continue along the ridge line towards the Pic du Clocher, which offers a plunging view over the Durance valley.
On the way back, our descent will cross vast untouched expanses, threaded with newborn mountain streams.
Set off on an adventure with our three orienteering courses, designed by Céline DODIN, French champion in the discipline! Starting from the holiday village Le 1850 in Risoul, explore the mountains at your own pace, alone, with family or with friends.
Open to everyone, sporty or not, these courses are a fun way to discover nature and get young and old moving! Ask at reception for directions to the first control point, and enjoy the course!
