A great musical leap into the summer of 1936

The musical for the 90th anniversary of paid holidays

Written and directed by Christina Rosmini for the 90th anniversary of the Popular Front and the first paid holidays, “1936… Les Jours heureux!” is a popular epic built around 85 classic songs from 1934 to 1939. On stage, actor-singers and musicians — guitar, accordion, double bass — bring back to life the jubilation that swept across France at the time: factory dances and joyful strikes, the election of Léon Blum and the reforms, the first holiday departures to the banks of the Marne or the shores of the Mediterranean, the guinguettes…

Without glossing over the shadow then hanging over the world — from the Spanish Civil War to the gathering storm — the show blends emotion, humour and history, and still ends on a joyful note with Ray Ventura’s call: “Qu’est-ce qu’on attend pour être heureux?” (“What are we waiting for to be happy?”). A total musical — song, theatre, dance — accessible to all audiences, performed all over France in 2026 as part of the national campaign marking 90 years of paid holidays, led by PARCOURS Vacances, UNAT and ANCAV. Running time: 1 hour 15 minutes.

“The staging recreates the atmosphere of those years of workers' victories… a deeply moving experience.”

La Provence

“A refreshing and moving plunge into the depths of memory.”

La Marseillaise

“Popular songs to celebrate paid holidays… Conviviality and solidarity take pride of place.”

Nice Matin

“An intense artist with a singular world, between lyric-driven chanson and sun-drenched music”

An actress, singer, dancer and author born in Marseille, Christina Rosmini has invented a French chanson in the colours of the South, nourished by her Spanish, Corsican and Italian roots and by music from all around the Mediterranean. Trained under Roland Petit, brought to public attention alongside Georges Moustaki, and a musical companion of Paco Ibañez and Enrico Macias, she champions, from stage to stage, a deeply humanist repertoire, acclaimed by critics and recognised in 2018 with the Grand Prix d’interprétation féminine from Les Amis de Georges.

“I shut myself away, alone, for a whole month at the Léo Lagrange holiday village in Vaison-la-Romaine, to write day and night and choose my words one by one, with passion and care.”

Our history

1936, the crucible of our values

As Under-Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure in the Popular Front government, Léo Lagrange was the architect of the first paid holidays and of making holidays accessible to all. It is his legacy that our association carries forward: access to holidays for as many people as possible, solidarity and conviviality. As Frédéric Rosmini, founding president of Vacances Léo Lagrange, likes to say: “He was a minister greater than his ministry.” Hosting this show in our villages is a way of bringing that memory into dialogue with the present — and it is also a family story: Christina Rosmini is the daughter of our founding president.
