Must-see sights to discover

The Choranche caves

Half an hour from the chalet, the Choranche caves are one of the flagship visits of the Vercors. Underground, children discover thousands of soda-straw stalactites, an underground lake and a memorable sound and light show. The visit is guided, along a safe, purpose-built route: an ideal gateway to geology, water and the formation of the massif.

Pont-en-Royans and the Musée de l'Eau

With its hanging houses clinging to the cliff above the Bourne, Pont-en-Royans is one of the most photographed villages in the Isère. A stroll through the lanes, then a stop at the Musée de l’Eau water museum: interactive exhibitions, workshops for school groups and a bar serving waters from around the world. An easy, fun outing that appeals to all ages.

The Bourne gorges

Between Villard-de-Lans and Pont-en-Royans, the Bourne gorges road winds between dizzying cliffs, tunnels cut into the rock and a turquoise river. From the coach windows or during a stop at a purpose-built viewpoint, children can gauge the power of the water that carved out the Vercors. A journey that becomes a geography lesson in its own right.

The Resistance Memorial and the Luire cave

In Vassieux-en-Vercors, the Resistance Memorial tells the story of the Vercors maquis with displays designed for young visitors. Not far away, the Luire cave, a makeshift hospital for Resistance fighters in 1944, extends the visit at a deeply moving natural site. A highlight for CM2 (Year 6) and secondary school classes studying the Second World War.

The Thaïs cave and the paddle boat at Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans

On the doorstep of the Vercors, the Thaïs cave surprises visitors with its colours and its prehistoric past. Right next door, a cruise on an authentic paddle-wheel boat takes the group along the Isère, at the foot of the village aqueduct. Two complementary activities on a single site, easy to combine in a half day.

The Jardin des Fontaines Pétrifiantes

In La Sône, this botanical garden, unique in France, reveals cascades of limestone-rich water that petrify everything they touch. Among pools, plants from all over the world and educational workshops, children watch an astonishing natural phenomenon at first hand. A peaceful, fully landscaped site, perfect for a science and nature outing.

The Vercors Prehistory Museum

Also in Vassieux-en-Vercors, this museum is built on a genuine 4,500-year-old flint-knapping workshop. Young visitors discover the daily life of the plateau’s first inhabitants and can take part in hands-on workshops: knapping, fire-making, spear-thrower shooting. A practical immersion in the Cycle 3 (upper primary) history curriculum.

The Coulmes forest and the Col de Romeyère

No need to take the coach for your first discovery: the chalet sits in the heart of the Coulmes forest, a designated Sensitive Natural Area (Espace Naturel Sensible) of the département. Easy waymarked trails, wildlife and plant spotting, landscape reading on the ridges… In winter, the cross-country ski trails and snowshoe routes start right at the pass. The ideal playground for a first supervised nature outing.

Food, health and local areas

Local produce within everyone's reach

Together with other holiday centres and with the support of the Vercors Regional Nature Park, we initiated the “Alimentation, Santé et Territoires” (Food, Health and Local Areas) approach: healthy food within everyone’s reach, farming sustained by the consumption of local produce, and preserved habitats, biodiversity and quality of life. We pay particular attention to the origin and quality of the food served at the table – and also offer food-themed stays.

  • Vercors trout
  • Local cheeses
  • Local organic bread
